Why are we asking?

In December 2018 Shetland Islands Council and NAFC Marine Centre made  a decision to bring together the opportunities and services provided at NAFC Marine Centre, Train Shetland and Shetland College, to create one sustainable institution for post-16 education, training, and research.

We are now gathering more evidence to ensure a new institution is sustainable and designed for Shetland's needs. 

​

In late autumn a report will be provided to the Minister for Education and the Scottish Government outlining the case for change, and how proposals fit the needs of Shetland.

​

Data will come from a wide range of sources on the economy, the population and the essential characteristics of Shetland informing the way a future institution should develop.

​

But it is also important that you, the people of Shetland, share your views with us.  We are planning community events over the next few months too - more details soon.
